The PTRM 484 Capstone gallery highlights our experience as Parks, Tourism, and Recreation Management students at the University of Montana, capturing the natural and cultural significance of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest, particularly at Colgate Licks. Situated along the Clearwater River near U.S. Highway 12, Colgate Licks is a unique environment where mineral-rich hot springs attract both wildlife and human visitors. This site not only supports elk and other wildlife with essential minerals but also holds historical value for Indigenous communities and early explorers. Designated as a National Recreation Trail, Colgate Licks provides a 0.6-mile loop accessible for foot traffic only, preserving its natural state and offering interpretive signs that educate visitors on its ecological and cultural heritage. This gallery, showcases our journey into land management, emphasizing conservation, historical respect, and sustainable recreation principles essential to protecting places like Colgate Licks for future generations.
